Discovery, Momentum and Bonitas have announced significant increases in their medical scheme membership fees for 2024. These increases are in response to rising claims costs, increased inflation and ongoing COVID-19-related expenses. Discovery Health Medical Scheme plans will see a weighted increase of 7.5%, with some members facing hikes of over 10%. Momentum Medical Scheme’s weighted average increase will be 9.6%, while Bonitas Medical Fund plans to implement a weighted increase of 6.9%. These fee adjustments will come into effect in January 2024. The rising costs of healthcare and other economic challenges have put pressure on medical schemes and their members.
