Standard Bank reported a remarkable surge in demand for solar and energy-related (green solutions) products, fuelled by the success of the government’s Energy Bounce-Back (EBB) Loan Scheme. The bank’s head of LookSee, Marc Du Plessis, stated that the green lending book has witnessed extraordinary growth, soaring by over 26% to reach R2.9 billion. With R1.2 billion added in 2023 alone, the bank’s initiative-taking approach in disbursing funds for solar solutions and ‘green-aligned’ homes has played a pivotal role. As a participant in the EBB Loan Scheme, Standard Bank, through its LookSee solar loans initiative, has been instrumental in providing funds for individuals and small businesses to install solar solutions and acquire eco-friendly homes.
