Absa officially launched its office in Beijing, China, on 31 January 2024. The move aims to strengthen ties and foster growth opportunities between Africa and China. The non-banking subsidiary office works to provide general advisory services, grow its international footprint, facilitating transactions across Africa for Chinese-based clients. Absa’s first physical presence in China supports its plans to serve multinational firms with operations spanning both regions, including giants like Huawei. As China emerges as a crucial economic partner for Africa, this move positions Absa to tap into the growing China-Africa trade, which reached approximately $251 billion in 2021.
