According to Momentum Health Solutions Chief Marketing Officer Damian McHugh, South Africa is experiencing strong growth in demand for affordable primary health insurance products. Demand is reportedly driven by employers seeking private-sector health services to avoid overburdened state facilities. Data shows strong growth for the top three primary health insurance providers over the past 18 months, with Momentum’s Health4Me product increasing by 15% in principal membership and lives covered rising by 16%. Conversely, the medical scheme market has stagnated at around 9 million members, with higher costs prompting people to choose efficiency discounted options.
