Samwu criticises 3.75% wage hike offer by Salga

The South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) expressed outrage over the latest wage offer from the South African Local Government Association (Salga). During the second round of salary negotiations, Salga proposed a five-year salary agreement, increasing the offer from 3.3% to 3.75% with a one-time R3 000 payment for workers earning below R22 000. Despite Samwu lowering their demand to 8%, Salga has not reciprocated. The union urged Salga to present a revised offer in the upcoming negotiation that addresses the need for meaningful wage growth amidst rising living costs.
