Nedbank launched a campaign ahead of Savings Month to raise awareness about the lack of retirement savings among South Africans. The campaign highlighted alarming statistics, such as 90% of South Africans not saving enough for retirement and 80% of the average salary being spent within five days. The bank took over a trendy restaurant in Sandton, replacing young waitrons with elderly actors beyond retirement age. Hidden cameras captured patrons’ reactions and when the bill arrived with the message “Reality Check. 90% of South Africans can’t afford to retire,” it sparked a lively debate and introspection about saving for retirement. The campaign aims to encourage people to start saving, even with small amounts each month, to secure a brighter future for the nation.
