The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) has rejected Eskom’s revised salary hike offer of 4.5%, up from the original 3.75%. Numsa argues that Eskom has the funds to adequately compensate its workers, citing the recent 18.5% tariff increase granted by the National Regulator of South Africa as a potential source. Numsa has revised its wage increase demand from 15% to 12% but emphasizes that Eskom has not fully addressed its other demands. These demands include increased housing allowances, medical aid contributions and extended maternity leave.
