Nedbank introduced the Green Economy Fund with an initial capital injection of R10 million. This fund is a transformational approach designed to support up to one hundred startups operating in the waste, water, energy and agricultural sectors. These sectors align with Nedbank’s Green Economy Strategy, emphasizing sustainability and contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. The fund serves as an opportunity for economic growth and is a vital financial lifeline to help green-economy SMEs survive until they are eligible for traditional financing. The strategy centres on creating sustainable jobs, particularly focusing on the youth and rural communities. Poovi Pillay, the executive head of corporate social investment at Nedbank, highlighted the bank’s commitment to an inclusive green economy that initiates opportunities for marginalized groups.
