African Bank has introduced a fixed monthly fee of R5 for its previously free MyWORLD Account, effective from October 1, 2023. This change is part of the bank’s strategy to maintain financial stability as it prepares for a public listing and planned Initial Public Offering (IPO). The bank refers to this approach as “solidarity pricing,” focusing on social profitability rather than purely financial profits. African Bank aims to reduce losses on cost-intensive channels like ATMs and promote digital banking, encouraging customer migration to digital platforms. The introduction of the nominal monthly fee is intended to support these efforts while delivering value to customers. Other changes include reduced deposit fees and slight adjustments to withdrawal fees.
