Department of Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan has announced a new board of directors for state freight rail, port and pipeline company, Transnet. The new board will include nine new appointments as well as two re-appointments who are expected to serve for a three-year term. Andile Sangqu, a former executive at the Minerals Council South Africa and Anglo American, will serve as the new chairperson. The move comes as the government seeks to improve the efficiency of the country’s infrastructure, which has been criticized by major exporters for constraining business. The appointments aim to provide expertise and strategic direction to Transnet to optimize its performance, governance and implement reforms, to address the nation’s logistics crisis.
