The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) has welcomed an above-inflation wage agreement with Gautrain operator Bombela Operating Company. This follows a strike by Gautrain workers affiliated with Numsa who demanded a 13% wage increase. The new agreement, effective from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025, includes a 6.8% wage increase which surpasses the current 5.1% inflation rate. Additionally, the company’s night shift transport subsidy increases from R105 to R112, the night shift allowance from R35 to R37, the housing subsidy from R1 210 to R1 300 and the KPI bonus incentive by 6.8%.
