National Treasury has launched the Spatial Economic Activity Data South Africa (SEAD-SA) program to understand the geographic distribution and characteristics of economic activities in the country. The government is providing R6.3 billion to South Africa’s metros through grant instruments, but incomplete data hampers effective planning. The SEAD-SA program will address this by compiling comprehensive data from various partner entities and agencies. The program aims to support metros as job generators and make informed policy and investment decisions to tackle job shedding and boost economic activities in cities.
