The Western Cape government has launched the “Growth for Jobs” strategy to tackle economic decline and unemployment in South Africa. The plan aims to boost job growth by providing private sector access to resources like energy, water, infrastructure, skills and technology. The strategy sets an ambitious target of a trillion-rand jobs-rich, sustainable, and inclusive provincial economy growing at 4-6% per year by 2035. The plan includes focus areas like investment, exports, energy transition, water security, innovation and improved access to economic opportunities. The provincial government aims to create more than 600 000 jobs through this initiative.
