Workers at the Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) in South Africa have rejected the latest wage offer, leading to a continued strike. The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU), the main labour union at the port, had lowered its demand to a one-year 7% basic salary increase and a housing allowance, while RBCT offered a minimum 6% annual increase for three years. The strike isn’t affecting RBCT’s operations, but it adds to challenges at the port, which has already seen volumes drop due to issues with state-owned ports and rail operator Transnet.
