181

The South African government plans to invest R903 billion in infrastructure over the medium term, with R448 billion allocated to state-owned companies, public entities, and public-private partnerships. This includes 88 Strategic Infrastructure Projects (SIPs) focusing on areas like green hydrogen, housing and road construction. The green hydrogen projects alone have a value of over R300 billion and are expected to create thousands of employment opportunities. Other projects include bridge construction, housing infrastructure and highway upgrades. The government is also addressing challenges posed by the construction mafia, which disrupts project delivery through invasion and intimidation.
