Metropolitan and Uber launch initiative to assist with youth unemployment

270

Metropolitan and Uber have launched an initiative to provide free transportation for young job seekers in South Africa, aiming to tackle the country’s severe unemployment crisis. Recent data shows that the youth unemployment rate (ages 15-34) reached 45.5% in Q1 2023, underlining the urgent need for innovative interventions. The initiative, called Job Seekers, offers 500 free Uber rides for South African citizens aged 18-35 which can be used to attend job interviews, training sessions or induction programmes during June and July 2024. Eligible participants can apply online, and once verified, they will receive Uber vouchers covering round trips, available on a first-come, first-served basis.
