Liberty Holdings is considering restructuring or closing its health business due to prolonged losses. The insurer revealed to staff that Liberty Health has been unprofitable for years, with year-to-date losses exceeding the budget by R25 million. Despite a turnaround strategy initiated in March 2017, these efforts have largely been unsuccessful. As a result, the company confirmed that it is reviewing its health business unit and non-advice sales channels. A potential restructuring could affect about 200 employees, though operations outside South Africa, including Botswana, Kenya and Uganda remain unaffected by the business review process.
