Hulamin is facing an indefinite strike at its KwaZulu-Natal operations as 1 800 workers demand an increase in the company’s medical aid contribution which is capped at 40% and the equalization of pension fund contributions separate from salary negotiations. The National Union of Metal Workers South Africa (Numsa) is representing 1 050 of the workers and has stated that the strike will continue until a meaningful offer is made by management. Hulamin’s shares surged 6% earlier due to strong demand and robust financial results. The company’s Human Capital Executive stated that discussions are ongoing and both parties are committed to finding a resolution.
