Dube Tradeport Corporation has launched Dube TradeZone 2 adjacent to King Shaka International Airport, with a R1.8 billion investment that is expected to create 600 jobs over the next five years. The launch marks the second phase of the industrial zone, which has already attracted R4.6 billion in private sector investment and created over 5 500 permanent jobs. MEC for the department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Siboniso Duma highlighted the role of Special Economic Zones in job creation and economic development, emphasising their importance in reducing inequality, poverty and unemployment. Despite current economic challenges, Dube TradePort has secured seven private sector investors for TradeZone 2, targeting sectors such as manufacturing, logistics and automotive. The new zone adds 45 hectares of industrial land and 23 fully serviced sites.
