The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) has reached a wage agreement with steel-maker ArcelorMittal South Africa (Amsa) after talks stalled and a strike was looming. The agreement, valid for three years, includes a 6.5% increase in wages for each of the first two years and an increase linked to consumer price inflation (CPI) for the third year, capped at 6.5%. Workers will also receive a backdated payment from April. Medical aid subsidies and allowances will also see increases and paternity benefits will increase from 10 to 12 days and funeral benefits will be increased from R10 000 to R20 000.
