Agricultural jobs in South Africa rose in the third quarter of the year, reaching approximately 956 000 people employed in primary agriculture, a 10% increase year-on-year and 7% quarter-on-quarter. Favourable production conditions, including a robust field crop and horticulture harvest, contributed to the growth. Despite the positive data, the agricultural sector faces challenges such as port inefficiencies, geopolitical tensions, deteriorating infrastructure, municipal weaknesses, rising crime and energy supply constraints. Addressing these issues is crucial for sustaining long-term growth and job creation in the sector.
