Absa has introduced a significant employee stock ownership plan, marking one of the largest B-BBEE (Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment) transactions in recent times. This initiative extends to both Absa staff and beneficiaries of the Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Trust, aiming to create a positive impact by providing education and employment opportunities. While black employees, as per South Africa’s B-BBEE codes, will be the primary beneficiaries, the program acknowledges the contributions of all employees within the Absa Group. South African employees will receive free shares, while those in the 14 other countries where the group operates can participate in a cash-equivalent program, subject to local approvals. This move underscores Absa’s commitment to fostering diversity, inclusivity, and social responsibility within the organization.
