The Youth Employment Service (YES) works with private sector South African businesses to place or sponsor unemployed youth in 12-month work experiences, to give them critical experience and skills that they need to secure future employment. The business-led collaboration announced it had deployed 100 000 youth during the past four years, with no government funding. The statement added that these work experiences have seen R6 billion in salaries injected into local economies across South Africa. CEO, Ravi Naidoo, said that 61% of YES Youth come from grant-recipient households, so their incomes benefit entire families and communities.
