SAPO has been placed under provisional liquidation

184

The South African Post Office (SAPO) has been placed under provisional liquidation due to its dire financial situation. The Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Mondli Gungubele, has called for calm and expressed hope that SAPO can transform itself into a profitable digital services platform. However, SAPO’s latest financial statements show significant debt and losses. Provisional liquidators have been appointed to manage the company’s assets and debts. Despite its financial troubles, the government has plans to expand SAPO’s services into e-commerce and the courier space, as well as to provide financial services through the Postbank Ltd Amendment Bill.
